I was thinking that reading while visualizing would be a good way to enhance my visualization while calculating, however a large portion of my concentration goes into imagining what is written as if it is on the board, and it may be easier (and faster) to absorb the information by simply sitting next to a board (or using an online one) as I read each section.There are 1000s and 1000s of chess books available in the stores and online. Do you guys read through books like this by visualizing the progression of the board with each move, or do you play with a board side-by-side and set up each position so you can directly see the board? The book progresses by showing a starting position then the correct (and incorrect) moves are explained in text. It's a great read and I'm learning but the progression seems slow because I'm trying to do it while visualizing the board. I just started Silman's "How to Reassess your Chess: 3rd Edition Extended".
